Ensk lýsing:
This field-defining core text in org theory and management is unique in that it focuses exclusively on public organizations. There is no other text like it on the market. In the previous edition, Dr. Rainey introduced a guiding framework for organizational analysis emphasizing the integration and coordination of the domains of the organization (environment, strategy and decision-making processes, goals, values, culture, structure, relationships, tasks, and communication processes) with the motivations, work attitudes, and behaviors of the people who lead and manage them.
The guiding framework is still central in this revision which includes new research and practice (particularly from outside of the US), specifically in the areas of collaboration and networks, innovation (in an era of decreased budgets), process improvement through technology, open government and citizen participation, customer service, and a provides a greater emphasis on management practice through examples of people in government organizations who are leading major change efforts successfully.
Based on reviewer recommendations, the revision is less dense (minutiae has been discarded in favor of expanded use of the text's excellent figures, tables and contemporary examples), and is now paperback. The online instructor's guide has been updated with new examples and vignettes focused on instances of the effective and ineffective application of the concepts featured in the text in support of active learning and assimilation.
